27th Annual Meeting of the
British Zeolite Association

University of St. Andrews
5th - 7th July 2004

The 2004 Meeting of the British Zeolite Association is to be held in the beautiful Scottish town of St. Andrews. The meeting will follow the format of previous two-day BZA conferences, with an emphasis on contributions from younger scientists, as well as invited lectures from established experts in the field. All aspects of the science of nanoporous materials are welcome, and a wide range of synthesis, characterisation and applications will be covered in the invited lectures. Whatever your own field, there will be something for you, and plenty of state-of-the-art science in related areas. In organising these meetings, the BZA aims to provide an enjoyable and stimulating environment for high quality scientific discussion. I hope you will be able to come this year for a special meeting.

Venue and Accommodation

St Andrews is an ideal venue for a conference. Most famous as the home of golf, it is a unique medieval city, complete with cathedral and castle, situated gracefully by the North Sea, with views to the Scottish highlands, endless sandy beaches and a wealth of turbulent history. A seat of learning since 1410, it is now home to a thriving and world famous university, and offers a peaceful and stimulating environment for formal and informal scientific discussions.

The meeting itself will be held in a modern lecture theatre with adjacent lounge and exhibition facilities on the University of St. Andrews campus and the accommodation will be nearby within the modernised John Burnet Hall of Residence. Parking is available close by. Both the lecture theatre and the accommodation are within a few minutes walk of the bustling town centre, which retains its traditional charm.

The BZA meeting will follow the established pattern for annual BZA conferences: short original papers (25 minutes) from young research workers, interspersed by plenary and invited lectures and a poster session.

The invited speakers are :

Professor Russell Morris (University of St. Andrews and Barrer lecturer)
Professor Osamu Teresaki (University of Stockholm, Sweden)
Professor Francis Taulelle (University of Strasbourg, France)
Dr. Ben Slater (Royal Institution of Great Britain)
Professor Friedrich Schmidt (Süd Chemie, Germany)
Dr. Eric Coker (Sandia National Lab. USA)
Dr. Andrew Chapple (Unilever Research)

The Second Circular and Lecture Programme is now available

The meeting will therefore include sessions on synthesis, structure, modelling, catalysis, detergency and other applications of microporous and mesoporous materials, but will embrace all aspects of the science of nanoporous solids.

The meeting will begin at 3 pm on Monday 5th July and finish at lunchtime on Wednesday 7th July. The conference banquet will be held on the evening of the 6th July. As an added bonus, the RSC Solid State Discussion group will hold their meeting in St. Andrews at the same time and a joint event is planned to enable the two related communities to meet.

Accommodation will be available on the Sunday evening, 4th July, for those who wish to arrive early and make the most of the venue. This is highly recommended for those who like history, architecture, walking, sunbathing (possibly) or golfing.

Registration (Deadline 1st May 2004)

The fees for the BZA conference will be £250 for members of the BZA and £190 for student members. This fee includes attendance at all scientific sessions, two days full board, a wine reception and a conference banquet. Extra bed and breakfast is available on Sunday 4th July at £40 per night. A separate rate is available for day delegates.
