BZA Annual Meeting 2002

Heriot-Watt Conference Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland
4-9th August 2002

Final Circular

INTRODUCTION

After a number of successful British Zeolite Association Meetings at Farringtons School, Chislehurst, Kent when Lovat and Elizabeth Rees retired to Edinburgh they were asked to organise a meeting based on the same format as the Chislehurst Meetings at the Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot-Watt University, Riccarton, Edinburgh. The first such meeting in Edinburgh in July 1996 was very successful so the BZA Committee requested Lovat and Elizabeth to organise another meeting in Heriot-Watt from the 8-13th August 1999. This meeting was equally enjoyable and so a tradition of holding the triennial meeting at Edinburgh has become established. The present meeting will be organised, as before, along Gordon Conference lines and will be limited to approximately 120 scientific participants.

The Edinburgh Conference Centre at Riccarton is in a peaceful rural setting but is easily accessible by vehicle from the centre of Edinburgh (6 miles) and the Edinburgh By-Pass (0.5 miles).Edinburgh International Airport, which is served by scheduled national and international flights, is only a short distance away. The journey by taxi from airport to the Conference centre takes approximately 10 minutes. Edinburgh Waverley Railway station, in the centre of Edinburgh, is well served by Inter-City trains with regular hourly service from London, Kings Cross, journey time of 4 hours. The campus is served with a very frequent bus service from the City Centre, journey time 35 minutes. There are excellent sporting facilities on the campus but, unfortunately, no swimming pool. However, there are 53 golf courses locally. Lectures will be held in the mornings and in the evenings after dinner. Full exchange of ideas among persons who are actively interested in zeolites and related materials will remain the prime purpose of the meeting. The afternoons will be free for recreation, sight-seeing, reading or participation in discussion groups. Edinburgh offers glorious architecture in a beautiful setting. The New Town is Europe's largest area of Georgian architecture. Between the twelfth century Castle, historic home to the Scottish monarchs, and the Palace of Holyrood, the Queen's Scottish residence lies a medieval town of high tenements and winding, cobbled streets. Every year in August the world famous Edinburgh Arts Festival takes place, for more information on the Edinburgh Arts Festival visit the following web site at www.eif.co.uk

STUDENT CONCESSION*

The British Zeolite Association has some funds available to help Post-Graduate students who are members of the BZA, who are currently studying for a higher degree and whose research is concerned with the properties and/or application of zeolites or related materials. Students wishing to attend the meeting under this reduced registration fee must complete the appropriate sections of the application form and submit the form, with fee, by 28th February 2002. If more students apply than can be covered by the available funds preference will be given to students who are presenting a poster at the meeting.

In additional to the reduced registration fee applicants from UK Educational Establishments will, also, receive some help with their travel expenses if these exceed £25 for the return journey. Money provided under this scheme will be paid at the meeting but proof of travel expenditure will be required.
